Snoop Dogg is launching a new line of cannabis-infused, crispy onion-flavoured edibles.
The rapper has teamed up with TSUMo Snacks, a popular California-based snacks brand that combines familiar savoury flavours and cannabis, to recreate his favourite savoury snack with one special ingredient: cannabis. Snoop Dogg is also one of the brand’s investors.
Debuting early this month, Snazzle Os comes in two flavours – onion and spicy onion, and brings a “THC-infused twist to the legendary rapper’s favourite snack,” a news release states. THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the psychoactive compound in marijuana that causes the “high”.
“I’m excited to partner with TSUMo Snacks to bring some new snack options to the fans,” says Snoop Dogg. “There are plenty of sweet edibles out there, so when I created this product, I wanted to put the Dogg twist on it, which is why I’m bringing the savoury THC-infused crispy onion-flavoured rings to my home state of California. You know that if I’m going to put my name on something, it’s guaranteed stamped Snoop D-O-Double-G fresh.”
How much THC in a bag?
According to the release, each snack bag is “loaded with 100mg of THC”. Snoop Dogg told the Washington Post that “the reason [he] likes these [Snazzle Os] is because of their low-dose effect”.
Caroline Yeh, TSUMo Snacks co-founder and CEO, said that she can’t wait to see what fans think of this innovative, first-of-its-kind cannabis edible.
“Snoop aligns perfectly with TSUMo Snacks’ values, as he has always been authentic to his true self,” she said.
‘From the most hated to everybody capitalising off it’
The rapper has always been candid about his love of weed. His songs commonly feature marijuana, with one of his hits encouraging listeners to “smoke weed every day”.
Last year, he told the New York Times that, “cannabis, marijuana, whatever you want to call it, is all about love and bringing people together,” and that he “helped make this business famous before it became legal”.
Snoop Dogg, who was arrested multiple times for the possession of marijuana, said he never imagined the cannabis market would explode the way it did.
“I don’t understand how it could go from being the most hated, the most vicious thing that you could do, to now everybody’s capitalising off of it, and they’re leaning toward a demographic that can prosper off of it, as opposed to the demographic that created the business,” he told the Times.
The TSUMo Snacks x Uncle Snoop partnership will also feature a limited-edition merchandise line, complete with a tracksuit, gold chain and more, as an homage to classic California hip-hop culture. The snack brand will showcase a custom-snacking throne, signed by Snoop Dogg, which will be auctioned to benefit his Snoop’s Special Stars charity.
